The grade for thin mulch film below 15 μm, protective bags and co-ex black layers. 46% carbon black on unfilled PE, run at a low let-down — the loading that reaches the hiding you need is confirmed on a trial at your gauge — with a 0.30% moisture ceiling that keeps thin gauge free of bubbles and streaks.
Typical values from in-house QC. We confirm the contractual spec against your order, with a batch CoA on every shipment.

Where N4066 shows up in our export business, and why buyers pick it.
Run at a low let-down, so less carrier resin goes into a tonne of thin film. For illustration, a 1.5% addition uses 15 kg of masterbatch per 1,000 kg of finished film; a 3% addition uses 30 kg. These figures are ratio calculations and do not establish equal opacity — confirm the loading in a trial at your gauge and resin.
Black bag and liner structures where a deep, even colour is the requirement. Set the loading on a trial at your gauge rather than by a rule of thumb.
Unfilled carrier for the black layer of EVA/LLDPE barrier films.
Film with MRF-grey recyclate in the blend, where the base colour has to be covered. Set the loading on a trial rather than over-dosing by default.
The formulation logic behind the spec sheet — what the chart does not say.
The arithmetic buyers miss: for illustration, a 1.5% addition uses 15 kg of masterbatch per 1,000 kg of finished film; a 3% addition uses 30 kg. Those are ratio calculations, not a claim of equal performance, and they are not tied to any particular grade. What loading actually reaches the hiding you need is a trial question — we confirm it on your gauge and resin before you commit to a run.
Why moisture below 0.30%: at 12–15 μm gauge, any moisture becomes visible bubbles and streaks. The spec is set for thin film, not for general purpose.
The <1% ash is deliberate for optical film: no filler gels, no die lines, no pinholes in the black layer.
N4066 is the thin-gauge specialist. Its value is a moisture ceiling, not a headline carbon black number.
| Grade | Carbon black | Carrier system | Let-down | FOB price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| N4066 | 46% ±2 | PE (unfilled) | 1–1.5% | USD 2.00–4.20 | Mulch film below 15 µm, protective bags, co-ex black layers |
| CM50 | 47% ±2 | PE (unfilled) | 1–3% | USD 2.10–4.50 | Blown film where a deep black is the requirement and gauge is more forgiving |
| 508C | 13% ±2 | PE + CaCO₃ (~56%) | 3–6% | USD 1.20–2.80 | Cost-driven extrusion where UV and thin gauge are not the drivers |
Below 15 µm, the failure modes change. Three that come up repeatedly in agricultural film.
Thin mulch film gives moisture nowhere to hide. The grade leaves us under a stated ceiling; a pallet opened in a monsoon-season warehouse will not. Keep bags sealed until the hopper, rotate stock, and never leave a part-used pallet open overnight.
Blackness (how black it looks) and opacity (how much light it blocks) are different properties. Mulch film is usually specified on the second. If your target is soil-temperature control or weed suppression, tell us the requirement rather than the colour, and we will dose for light transmission.
At a low let-down a small dosing error is a large relative error. On thin film that is the difference between full coverage and a translucent patch. Gravimetric dosing, or at least a calibrated volumetric feeder checked by weight, is not optional at this gauge.
Run the arithmetic first: for illustration, a 1.5% addition uses 15 kg of masterbatch per 1,000 kg of finished film; a 3% addition uses 30 kg. Those are ratio calculations and do not establish equal opacity. Then run the grades you are comparing on your own line and weigh what you actually consume at the hiding you need — the trial settles it, the arithmetic alone does not.
It is used down to 10–12 μm in cast and blown structures. Below that, send us your line details and we confirm die/screen pack recommendations before you commit.

No. Food-contact work needs a food-contact carrier system — see AM3910 for rigid food-contact articles and AM4018 for light-shielding food packaging film. N4066 is an agricultural and industrial film grade.
The supplied material is characterised below 0.30%. That ceiling is the reason the grade is specified for thin gauge, and it is measured on the lot rather than stated as a design target — the CoA carries the figure.
Greenhouse film normally needs a UV-stabilised, often multi-layer structure and a specific service life measured in seasons. Send us the construction and target life and we will say whether a single-layer black route is appropriate or whether the answer is a co-ex structure.
Tell us your polymer, process and target carbon black in the part. We reply with the N4066 spec sheet, a let-down recommendation and a firm factory quote.
N4066 is compounded for thin-gauge film, where the loading has to hold opacity at low gauge. This is the line and the QC.
